Dana Berkowitz

As Founder and Creative Director of Hacienda Design Studio, Dana shares with you her passion for cement tile, the inspiration for the collection and design ideas to customize our tile for your space.

With degrees in English and French from Binghamton University, Dana began her career in the world of interior design at Pierre Frey, Inc, in NYC. Having developed a passion for beautifully designed spaces and luxurious home furnishings, she spent the next decade working at Waterworks in the heart of the NY Design District.

Throughout these years, Dana traveled the world at every opportunity, inspired and fulfilled by different cultures and the rich beauty of foreign lands. In 2008, she moved to Merida, the capital city of Yucatan, Mexico, to restore a 170 year old carriage house whose only salvageable remains were the cement tile floors.

When the restoration was complete and the floors were polished to their original glory, Dana became enamored with this affordable, customizable and sustainable material. Determined to expose cement tile to a wider audience, she set forth to design her own collection, uniting modern artistry with several centuries of traditional hand craftsmanship.

Dana is incredibly proud to introduce cement tile remixed. She now lives in New Jersey with her boyfriend, Guy, and visits her restored carriage house in Mexico whenever she is in need of inspiration.
